The Framework

Communication is the Culture

Culture is not what an organization says it values. Culture is what its leaders communicate, model, reinforce, and celebrate every day.

Every leadership choice sends a message.
Every message shapes culture.

What I do

I help organizations, and the leaders who run them, build the discipline no MBA teaches: leading people well through intentional communication.

Most organizations invest heavily in how they communicate with the outside world but leave the employee experience to chance. Yet culture isn't created by mission statements or values on a wall. It's shaped every day by what leaders communicate, model, reinforce, and celebrate.

I partner with organizations to strengthen communication from the inside out, since how an organization communicates internally becomes how employees experience the company.

One outcome: a culture people want to show up for

The Approach

Internal Communications Strategy

Partnering with organizations on the structure, cadence, and voice of how leadership communicates to its people, building culture by design, not by chance.

Strategy → Structure → Advising
The Follow-Through

Once the strategy is built, executive advisory helps leaders carry it forward

Strategy sets the direction. Advisory makes sure the people carrying it out can actually lead it.

→ Culture is the outcome
“Culture isn't created in strategy documents. It is shaped by intentional leadership.”

About

Alisha Westfield Celestine

Founder & CEO, helping leaders and organizations communicate from the inside out.

Throughout my career as a communications executive, I've built how organizations communicate with their people, including leading internal communications at two of the nation's largest health systems, Kaiser Permanente and UCLA Health.

That work has put me in the room with C-suite leaders as their strategic partner, advising directly on communication strategy at an organizational level and building the structures, cadence, and judgment calls that shape how a company communicates with its people, whether business is thriving or the ground is shifting beneath it.

I've built integrated communications functions from the ground up, led culture transformation across workforces of 75,000+, and counseled senior executives through growth, crisis, and change. Across all of it, I've seen the same thing with consistency: communication is the culture.

Directions West is the culmination of that experience: a practice built entirely around helping organizations do by design what most leave to chance.

I also speak to leadership teams and conferences on how communication shapes culture and performance. Book me for your event →
